70 Ibs in 20 weeks: 1 am "me" again!
I had progressively gained a substantial amount of weight over a period of 18 years. I tried to lose some of it several times - some successfully, but eventually I gained it all back, and more. I placed blame on myself while the feeling of failure and guilt made me learn to accept that I was destined to be fat for the rest of my life.
In late spring of 2018, I attended a family picnic and watched an overweight, older family friend struggle to walk (and even breathe).
I realized that at such a late age, she would unlikely be able to change her situation. From that moment, I decided that, although ! accept getting older, I would not allow my health to fall due to something I had control over.
I met with Dr. Des in June 2018 and she came up with the program that best fit my goal and needs. I started my weight loss journey on July 1°
. Part of my motivation was looking at the big picture, changing my attitude. This was a journey, not a diet. While on the program, I learned about foods, what was on the list and what was not (and why). It was not about counting calories or carbs, just eating only what was on the list. It wasn't that I "couldn't have" certain foods. They weren't on the list and I chose not to eat them.
It was all about choices and not restrictions.
Logging food and drinks was one of the critical parts of the program. It helps to keep your focus and really shows your habits.
One of the biggest habits I had was "tasting" food while I was cooking (especially baking). I quickly learned to change my bad habits into more appropriate good ones.
I started cooking healthier meals and discovered ways to have some old favorites by modifying the recipes. One of the best parts of the program is that I never felt hungry. The food was filling. I even kept baking, but did not eat what i made.
I started losing weight in the first week.
Keeping strict to the program made the weight come off quickly which kept me motivated to follow the program.
I did all of the work, but I could not have done it without Dr. Des. She gave me the tools and support to get it done.
I was 50 Ibs down in 3 months and hit my
goal of 70 in less than 4 ½ months. That's 4 sizes down.I feel like a new person with renewed confidence.
After a few weeks from hitting my goal, I'm eating some of the things that had been cut out, in moderation, of course. I've even found that i don't crave many of those foods that are bad for me. For those that I missed, I have found healthier compromises, which help to keep off the weight. With Dr. Des' continued support, she helps me to identify what my weight gain triggers are, so I can stay away from them.
